Window Mask

Do
not use on unprimed metals.
Do
not use on stained glass, frosted glass, coated glass,
etched glass, textured glass and Plexiglas™ or plastic
glass because the WM will be impossible to remove without damage.
Since on some coated glass the coating may be hard to detect, ask
the owner and test on a small spot before using WM.
Do
not apply lacquers, primers or paints containing ketones or alcohols
over the WM.
Do
not topcoat the WM with alkyd paints.
DIRECTIONS
FOR USE:
SURFACE
PREPARATION :
Prepare the trim surfaces as you would prior to painting with any latex paint. Clean the glass.
Remove all paint and stickers. Do not use over glossy, oily or chalky surfaces.
APPLICATION
:
Do not dilute since it may
cause sagging.
Apply
WM when surface and air temperature is above 50°F.
Stop
application at least one hour before heavy dew or rain.
Stir
before using.
When using the WM as a mask and
primer on unpainted or scraped wood
frames, apply the WM over the entire surface of glass and frame using spray,
brush or roller.
When using the WM as a mask
only (on primed or painted frames), apply the WM over the entire surface of
the glass and on to as much of the frame as desired.
When spraying WM, use a light
horizontal coat and then immediately a vertical coat to cover an area.
When using an airless sprayer,
use a tip of 411-513 size and a pressure of under 2500 PSI. When
using a HVLP sprayer, use the instructions for a thick latex paint.
The thickness
of the coating should be at least 8-10 mils when wet. That thickness will give a
strong enough coat to be peeled in one piece. Too thick a coating will run or
sag. Practice to achieve the
correct thickness. If the WM film
does not come off in one piece after being topcoated with latex paint, spray
with more WM to get the correct thickness.
It is important to smooth out
any runs or sags on the trim while wet. A damp sponge brush can be used to smooth out runs or sags.
A fairly rough coat on the glass is OK.
COVERAGE
: 150-200 square feet per
gallon.
Allow to dry at least 60 minutes. High humidity will increase drying time to 2-4 hours. Film remains slightly tacky to the touch even when dry. Film is not dry until it is clear. If the film is topcoated before it is dry, moisture will be trapped in the film. Eventually, the moisture will pass through the latex paint topcoat but at a much slower rate. The WM film and the latex paint topcoat will be tender for much longer. If the topcoat dries before the mask, it is possible to have the topcoat alligator or crack.
PAINTING :
Apply a latex paint over the
WM.

Do not leave on glass more than 30 days.
Score the WM coating with a 5-in-1 tool, dull razor blade or knife around the entire edge of the glass.
Lift the edge and peel the WM
coating from the glass.
Note:
The coating may be difficult to remove from the glass in very
warm/dry/sunny conditions. Remove in the
morning if possible. Cool and
moisten the coating by dampening with water on a sponge or cloth to aid removal
if needed. If WM still is difficult
to remove, wait until the next day and remove early in the morning when the
coating is full of moisture.
